Governmental agencies such as the Department of Motor Vehicles and local law enforcement agencies charge a processing fee in order to pay for administrative costs. We pledge to never ask for a credit card, personal check, or cash to recover legal documentation that you’re entitled to.

You can request a copy of your crash report online at If the State Police responded to the accident, you may also retrieve your report by sending a stamped, self-addressed envelope and a $15 check or money order made out to “The State of Rhode Island” to the following address:

Both of these channels require you to pay fees in order to obtain your report.

You may also retrieve a copy of your crash report in person under certain circumstances. If the Providence Police responded to the accident, you may request a copy of your report from the department by calling (401) 243-6416 and then picking it up at City Hall. The cost is $0.15 per page and up to $15/hour in labor costs after the first hour.

Other police departments may make copies of the report available in-person, either free of charge or for a small fee. You should call the department in question for additional information.

You may not get a copy of your crash report in person if the State Police responded to the crash.
