Narrative
JOHNSTON, RI – A 55-year-old nun sustained serious injuries last Wednesday after a vehicle struck her in a crosswalk in Johnston.
The incident occurred around 6:40 p.m. on Atwood Avenue just in front of St. Rocco’s Church and School, which is between Plainfield Street and Scalabrini Drive.
The investigation thus far indicates that the victim was crossing Atwood Avenue when she was struck by a Nissan Rogue. The Nissan had stopped in front of the crosswalk but was rear-ended by an SUV, causing the former vehicle to hit the pedestrian.
Medics transported the nun, identified as Daisy Kollamparampil, to Rhode Island Hospital. Officials say that she is expected to recover from her injuries.
Police cited the driver of the SUV.
The investigation is ongoing.
