Motorcyclist killed in crash with garbage truck in Newport

NEWPORT, RI – A 35-year-old man from Tiverton died Friday morning when his motorcycle collided with a garbage truck at an intersection in Newport, reports 10 WJAR.

Police say the incident happened around 7:30 a.m. near the intersection of Memorial Boulevard, or LA-138A, and Cliff Avenue.

The motorcyclist died at the scene of the accident.

Authorities have not yet commented on how the crash happened, nor have they released the name of the victim. It is also unclear whether the driver of the garbage truck sustained injuries in the wreck.

A full investigation of the incident is underway.
