NORTH SMITHFIELD, RI – One pedestrian died, and another went to the hospital Wednesday after a hit-and-run crash along Route 146 in North Smithfield.
The incident occurred around 9:40 p.m. on the northbound side of Eddie Dowling Highway near Sayles Hill Road, which is just north of Rustic Tri View Drive-in.
Police say that the driver of a BMW sedan struck two pedestrians that were walking on the right shoulder of Route 146. The driver then left the scene of the accident.
Authorities identified the victim in the crash as 63-year-old Thomas Lamoureux.
The extent of the other pedestrian’s injuries is unknown at this time, but authorities say he is stable.
Police located the driver, identified as 25-year-old Nicholas Stone, at a local Walmart later that night. Stone faces multiple charges, including driving under the influence resulting in death.
