Narrative
CUMBERLAND, RI – A two-vehicle crash along a busy roadway in northeast Providence County killed a 17-year-old boy Thursday night.
The incident happened on Mendon Road, which runs northwest to southeast in the city of Cumberland.
The investigation indicates that the teen driver struck another car as that second vehicle entered his path from a side road. This initial collision caused the teen driver to leave the roadway and partially overturn after hitting a fire hydrant, a utility pole, and a parked vehicle.
The force of the collision threw the unrestrained teen partially out of his car, and he died from injuries sustained in the accident.
The other driver did not sustain injuries in the crash.
A full investigation is underway.
