Narrative
SMITHFIELD, RI – An alleged drunk driver struck and injured a 65-year-old bicyclist Sunday on the south side of Smithfield.
The accident happened just after 8:30 p.m. in the area of 135 Pleasant View Ave. This is just east of the Sprague Valley Reservoir.
The nature of the crash impact is unknown at this time. Medics transported the cyclist to an area hospital with critical injuries.
Police say the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash failed a field sobriety test at the scene. Authorities arrested him and charged him with DUI resulting in injury.
